idialer.exe or iPassConnectGUI.exe error when dialing iPass

Document number: 54061

This is a Level B document - It contains moderately difficult end-user information.

Symptom:

When dialing into a number provided by the iPass dialer, one of the following errors may appear:

Cause:

There is a known issue with dialing into a Point of Presence (POP, like an ISP) site that require scripting. This does not occur to every site, however, is a documented issue between iPass, and machines using Windows 2000 with Service Pack 4 installed.

Workaround:

Dial into a location that does not require scripting. To determine if a site requires scripting, follow these steps:

  1. Click on the red "i" icon next to the number you selected. A POP Details - ... window opens.

  2. If the Script field is blank (found at the bottom of the window), this site does not require scripting. You can dial into this number without seeing these errors.

Resolution:

Note: If you are not using Windows 2000, or you are using Windows 2000 but do not have Service Pack 4 installed, contact Technical Support Operations for assistance. For steps to check your Service Pack version, see Eureka! document 69035 -- How to find out what Windows Service Pack is loaded.

If you experience this issue, and are using Windows 2000 with Service Pack 4 installed, follow the steps:

  1. Close all other applications. You need to reboot your machine when this patch installation completes.

  2. Determine which language locale is appropriate for your machine. See Eureka! document 69098 — How to determine what "locale" is set up on your machine for steps to check your locale.
  3. Click on the appropriate link above fix for your machine.

  4. Choose the Save option when prompted.

  5. Specify the path to save the file as c:\temp. The file is copied to your machine's c:\temp folder.

  6. Browse to c:\temp and double-click on the Windows2000-KB824301-x86-###.exe file (where ### is a 3-letter code for the specific file you downloaded).

  7. Reboot your machine when the install completes (even if you are not prompted to reboot).

The error should no longer appear when dialing POPs that use scripting.
