How to create a RAS phone number connection
Note: The legacy RAS (dial-up networking) and PeopleSoft RAS Connection Manager (also known as PSRC or PSRCM) are in the process of being retired. To standardize dial-up access, the integrated PeopleSoft company is deploying iPass and VPN as the dial-up solution. For more information, see Eureka! document 54040 — iPass Frequently Asked Questions.
PS RAS Connection Manager users: Creating a new RAS phone number connection can resolve the problem of PS RAS Connection Manager not launching when you click the icon.
To set up a new RAS connection, follow these steps:
Click on the Start menu, then on Settings, and then on Network and Dial-up Connections. The Network and Dial-up Connection screen appears.
Click on the Make New Connection icon. The Network Connection Wizard dialog box appears.
Click Next.
Choose Dial-up to private network on the Network Connection Type screen and click Next.
Do NOT choose the Infrared modem! It may be chosen by default. You may need to click in the box next to that choice to deselect it.
Click Next.
On the Phone Number to Dial screen, click in the box next to Use dialing rules so that the Area code: field becomes active. Enter the phone number you wish to dial, area code first, then the phone number in the appropriate fields. Select the appropriate Country/region code.
Click on Next.
On the Connection Availability screen, you should generally choose For all users.
Click on Next.
If you wish, click on the box next to Add a shortcut to my desktop and an icon will be added to your Windows desktop for this connection.
Click Finish.
Do not pick anything on the Server screen. Click on Next.
On the phone number screen, enter the area code and phone number you want to dial. Click on Next.
For North America, when entering toll-free numbers, be sure to enter a ' 1' before the number. Also, if you are entering a number with an area code that is different from the area code you normally call from, you may want to enter a ' 1' before the number as well.
Your new connection should be available for use. For information about accessing the network remotely, see Eureka! document 50015 — How to access the network using RAS or Dial-Up Networking.
