If, while logging onto the network the error message: The system could not log you on. Make sure your User name and domain are correct, then type your password again. Letters in passwords must be typed using the correct case. Make sure that Caps Lock is not accidentally on. appears, you may have made an error in entering your username, password, and/or domain name.

To solve this, check the following:

  1. Are you sure you have entered your user name correctly? If not, re-enter it at the appropriate prompt.
    • Should your user name have a number after it? (e.g., ksmith2 verses ksmith)

  2. Are you sure you have entered your password correctly? If not, re-enter it at the appropriate prompt.
    • Passwords are case-sensitive, so make sure you have included any necessary capital or lower-case letters you specified in your password.
    • Is your caps lock on? If so, turn it off and re-enter your password.
    • If you have a new IBM machine, make sure your NumLock feature is not turned on. To turn it off, press { Shift}{ ScrLck} ({ ScrLck} is above the { F11} key).
    • Have you recently changed your password? If so, are you sure you're using the correct new password?

  3. Is the correct Domain: specified on the log on screen? Most users should be in the PEOPLESOFT domain.

If you correct the logon information, the error message should no longer appear.
